July 17, 2012: Enoby emerges from the blood-soaked shadows of Hogwarts' forbidden corners to officially join in our poking of a certain elephantine preppy man.

October 5, 2011: Spring cleaning.

July 17, 2011: After weeks of inactivity and a pretty epic smackdown, Ryuu takes his forum offline. Oh shucks.

4.2.12

The reasons.

Okay, in my last post I hinted that my reasons for participating in this blog would be laid out in a separate post. This is that post.

Okay... for starters. I am the nice one on this site. I try to be polite, even in criticism, refrain from unwarranted personal attacks, and in general am the diplomatic arm of things. My friends, especially rinku, do not always fit this mold. Hence I was brought in to cover that part of things.

Do note mistake their blunt mannerisms (or caustic in rinkus case) as being the product of a seething cauldron of hate against ryuu, they aren't, that's just how they are (rinkus actually very nice once you get to know him in fact).

But this post isn't about them or defending them, they don't need me to white-knight for them, or to gather an army of white-knights on their behalf, they can handle themselves. No this post is about me.

I am here because, though I focused more on his art and his reaction to criticism in general, I do not care for his opinions on LGBT people, nor his high and mighty way of conducting himself in general. This is a personal opinion. Do I really know him all that well? No. But I'd bet that you yourselves also form sometimes unfavorable opinions of people you are also equally unfamilliar with beyond a certain point, so you'd be hypocritical to argue against my actions on those grounds.

I however decided to focus on his work as an artist. Yes he is an amateur. So am I, what is your point? He posts his work on a public forum where anyone might see it, and indeed even welcomes attention and viewers... until someone decides they don't really like it. This offends me as an artist in that I am entirely self taught. I had the mandatory high school art class, didn't learn all that much from it, dropped out of art for awhile until I decided to have another go at it.
And I sketched, sketched, sketched, and found it sucked. I went showed my work to people and asked people I knew to be good artists how it was. they thought I could really benefit from learning proper form and technique. Also they thought it sucked too.

Did I whine about being an amateur? Or that I was just starting, or that I had not attended art school? No. No I didn't I took all criticism more detailed then an unhelpful "it sucks, and thus you suck" under consideration, got ahold of some art technique manuals online and from used bookstores and TAUGHT MY OWN DAMNED SELF HOW TO DRAW. I used printer paper when I couldnt get sketch paper, never whined about how I was learning as I went. And I still often feel that I have miles and miles ahead of me. But I have not once whined about being a self taught amateur who hadn't or couldn't attend art school. I did not once treat all criticism of my technique as anathema (oh I sulked, who wouldn't).

I have perceived ryuu to have done this (that is to say, treated criticism of his art as criticism of himself). Many, countless artists on DA have, but here was someone I felt could actually do better then what they were if they actually put effort into a proper self-education on how to draw. And yet he whines about art school, and being an amateur, and various other things. Yes I felt the need to speak up on it. Then I moved on. And yet here we are again.

  1. Much better said, thank you. This time it wasn't loaded full of bias and what could be easily taken as direct hate speech.

However, dedicating an entire blog to one person in particular is bound for trouble, would you not agree? Nobody 'deserves' this, especially if they haven't done anything awful.

"But I'd bet that you yourselves also form sometimes unfavorable opinions of people you are also equally unfamilliar with beyond a certain point, so you'd be hypocritical to argue against my actions on those grounds."

Not that there are any logical fallacies with this statement, because there aren't, but you know that this is hardly the right way to deal with something that's hardly a problem anymore. All the lot of you are doing is making old wounds bleed.

    1. LOLOLOL "hate speech", you don't know shit about hate speech. The next time someone here says Ryuu deserves to be killed and burn in Hell for eternity, maybe we'll talk, but I wouldn't hold your breath on that one.

Nice to know that telling LGBT people that they're inherently disgusting isn't awful. Glad to know where you stand on the matter. Maybe instead of working yourself up over how mean we are for DARING to refuse to obediently lick Ryuu's balls, you should maybe take your homophobic attitude and shove off.

We're not the ones "making old wounds bleed", 100% of the new content here over the last couple days have been a direct result of you and your friends posting here. For someone who didn't want to contribute to the blog, you're sure doing a good job of it.

    2. I'm afraid Rinku's right, this IS his blog...

I think we all know Ryo's views on anyone who isn't straight... are there any reasons why this is still being debated? =\

    4. I don't tell gay people they're disgusting lol. Where did you get that silly idea? Lol. I have many bisexual and gay/lesbian friends, lol, and I entirely support them in every way, lol, so much so that I don't even care, lol, and we do understand that there are some people with a deferring opinion, and some are quite loud about it. However, you are acting like a two-year-old and demanding he is an evil man for stating his opinion on LGBT. Wait... was he hating? I see that he might have been, because all this blog is doing is stating its opinion on Ryo. Wait....

Now fuck of your own goddamn blog. You're annoying as fuck, and I'd much rather be speaking with an Earthling such as DrBlanc.

    6. Did I say that you did? I was talking about Ryuu, but also the idea that it's okay to tell whole groups of people that they're inherently disgusting IS homophobic, or at the least complacent to it.

Hahahaha no, having an opinion about Ryuu's behavior that he brought on himself is not the same as believing that millions of people are disgusting and shameful and deserved to be shunned just because of the way they were born. If he was talking the same shit shit about racial minorities, I don't think anyone but racists would be here defending him right now. He's a bigot, he's an arrogant fuck, and I don't give a shit if you think that's totally peachy keen, because it ain't, and no amount of empty threats or apologetics on his behalf is going to change that.

Gee, I wonder why Ryuu is allowed to say whatever he wants, but we're the ones who have to shut up.

It depends. Is this blog civilized in the sense that it's written with proper grammar, and is it uncivilized because of the content?

      @Rinku:

-Yes, in principle, it is the exact same.

"Gee, I wonder why Ryuu is allowed to say whatever he wants, but we're the ones who have to shut up."

-Because whereas he was merely wrong, you are a hypocrite. I induce through example that hypocrisy is worse than a direct wrongdoing.

    10. As hard as it may be for you to swallow Unknown, Rinku has a point. This blog was almost dead as dust before you all came here, I for one had barely given it much thought for a good solid year before the recent influx of new commentors was brought to my attention. If anyone has done more to make old wounds bleed, it would be you and your friends.

Please don't take that as an attack upon you, I mean it merely as a statement of fact. The simple truth of the matter is that while our opinion of ryuu remains basically the same as the day this blog was founded, out interest as maintaining this blog has waned to being a bit of a past-time.

Put another way, we had mostly moved on, barring an irresistible urge to say something new every couple of months or so.

So why bother to talk to you all at all? I for one, love to talk, if the incredibly long comments haven't given that away by now. Also, while im quite pleased that you find my demeanor conductive to a civilized conversation, it would perhaps be prudent on my part to point ou that I often find myself in agreement with rinku on quite a few manners, and that the key difference is that I believe in being scrupulously polite in criticism, discourse, and other such endeavors.

Rinku knows this city. It wears you down, like a disease. A subtle disease, making you feel bad but not enough to take a day off. There are no days off in the city. Always a bed to defile, a cooling body hiding in the dark like an unpleasant surprised left by the schnauzer in the middle of the hallway floor. The rats are always scurrying. Finding their bread in a pocket or two oh god this is really dumb, the Doc is going to roll me down the hill for this.

Anyways. I always work with 'tuff love'. meaning, I'd give anyone criticism, I don't care what they think. *shrugs*

Also, Rinku. I think you are wrong in saying that thinking those comments as 'not so awful' is homophobic attitude. Those comments don't really affect me much, yet I am not homophobic at all. But you don't have to believe me.

    1. Tough love is a good policy, especially when people don't see the need to improve for all the coddling and approval they get.

No, I'm not wrong, because it is homophobic attitude. It's saying that it's okay to treat human beings like garbage just as long as they aren't heteronormative. If that isn't homophobic, I don't know what is.

Just because people don't going around beating people up and just because people don't immediately see the problem doesn't mean the attitude isn't homophobic. It's complacency at the very, VERY least. It's saying that homophobia is acceptable.

  14. Dear Anonymous,

Did you even read the post you are commenting on? I feel I explain "WHY" pretty well. I also said I felt Ryuu could do BETTER. Not that he was the worst. I personally don't hate ryuu. No, you would KNOW if I hated him. Maybe a bit of very quiet... contempt? no thats the wrong word... Disdain, thats the word. Disdain for his reaction to criticism that he could turn towards the benefit of his art. Also his stated opinions LGBT people do nothing for my opinion of him either, but he is but one fae amongst many in regards to that gripe, which is why I focused on his art.

And I find it hilarious that what you seem to be implying is that a "hateblog" would be perfectly okay if it focused on the worst dreck The Internet has to offer. Sorry but I value my sanity too much to go there.

Also, you automatically assume that I am a, what did you call it, "dicksucker?" Sorry no. I am actually pretty asexual, meaning a complete lack of interest. This does not however mean that I am content to stand by in an apathetic stupor in regards to some subjects.

Also, your grammar is atrocious. Perhaps you were in too much of a rush to try and get a rise out of someone?

    ReplyDelete
  15. Yes I agree.

Well it's hard for me to believe it is when I have friends that are gay/bi, and that I have close bonds to some of them. So I don't think I am homophobic at all. ;o

It's just that, I don't argue about religion or it's beliefs at all. Like my mom today had a BIG argument over religious beliefs, first time I have heard such a thing. Of course, if older people try to deny rights to gay/bi's because of scripture/beliefs, then I wouldn't stand for that. I have voted on Prop 8 before, because I feel it isn't my business to see if they should be married or not.

I just don't think hating an individual for beliefs erected from a religion... is right. What you really should be doing, is hating the religion, not the person. Am I wrong? I'm sure you can do this in this age or in the future. (Although you don't like him because of other things, like his stubbornness, some people can be that way)

Get me? Seeing from Cala's responses, maybe she might understand what I mean in my third paragraph.

I don't believe anyone should be treated like garbage.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Also, I think one thing that can keep this 'belief' strong, is the inability to pro-create. Population is BOOMING now, so it isn't as bad. But earlier when the world was young, this wouldn't have been true.

Of course, I don't believe in treating people with such preferences like shit.

Again, I ask that you show me what has had you torn on Ryo for so long, because I have not seen it. (You say that I should, so please give examples)

    1. We have a faq, I'm tired of answering this question over and over, though I feel that if you can't see our reasons now, then you probably never will.

You're still complacent in it if you think it's acceptable behavior to hate on LGBT people. To say that it ISN'T awful is unbelievably callous; it says right off that it's okay to treat LGBT people like they're less than human. That is a homophobic attitude. I don't give a shit if you can bring yourself to have some gay friends, you still admit that you aren't bothered by someone calling them disgusting. I don't understand how one could be okay with that, if someone called people I loved disgusting and subhuman, I'd be extremely pissed.

We go after Ryuu because RYUU is the one doing the behavior. RYUU is the one who chose to hold these beliefs. RYUU is the one who thinks it's okay. That he keeps bringing up religion to justify it is an attempt at denying accountability for his actions.

I'm not sure why you insist on trying to shift the blame, here. It seems people keep asking us to pick on someone else, ANYONE else but Ryuu, as though it's wrong to pick on him but totally okay to pick on other people. "There are worse artists out there!" "There's better drama!" "What about them Westboro Baptist freaks?" "What about his church?"

He's a full grown fucking adult, he can take some accountability for his own damn actions.

      Delete
    2. As much as I hate to admit, Rinku's right. Ryuu did bring this upon himself. Just about everyone I had ask that knows him says the same damn thing.

However I will not name off anyone in particular.

Neo, it's not going to do you any good trying to stop them from criticizing. Ryo needs to try to settle this himself, otherwise they'll keep on saying how Ryo sends his minions to fight for him.

      Delete
  17. I was just trying to 'shift' the blame because I was just thinking it might have been Ryo's beliefs.

    1. Yes, it is his beliefs, which he chooses to hold and refuses to examine or question even a little bit, because despite the fact that other people are Christians too, they manage to get past the bigotry of their fundamentalist associates and realize that maybe, JUST MAYBE, hating on gay people might be a little bit shitty. But not Ryuu!

Then even after the rule WAS changed, saying it was not disallowed, he kept on disallowing it regardless. Prime example was the character the user innervision aka Timoo has made.

On the other hand, you came here with no interest whatsoever in our position (otherwise you would have LOOKED AT WHAT WE HAD ALREADY), rather you had already made up your mind that we were wrong, and came here with the sole intent of telling us that we were wrong, while pretending that your willful ignorance is somehow our fault because we didn't indulge your laziness by reciting the whole fucking blog back to you personally.

It's like trying to write a book report on a book you never read...

    3. Precisely. Especially if the point of the book report is to argue about why the author was wrong for this and that. And instead they just look at the cover and go from there.

Or reading the summary of a scientific paper and deciding that the experiment was invalid without even reading the paper itself.

      It's a strawman fallacy, and it's dishonest.

  21. I didn't bother to look at the whole blog. No big deal. (I didn't look because not much of it seemed interesting to me, I don't really look at things about character RP's, sue me)

I never said it was your fault. I think you seem to misunderstand. I just assume the examples may had been on ZEJ and since it was down, that I wouldn't be able to view it myself.

My intent was to speak my thoughts. About something I didn't know much about.

You really seem to get bothered by alot. I have not lost, because I'm not trying to gain anything. Just speak my thoughts and get feed back. I enjoyed speaking here. Can't be angry about everything. Jeez.

    I am not. I am honest as I can be. I will not just agree with someone when I come in to argue about something. You can't expect everyone to just 'Get on your side' when they come in. Your attitude is very childish. ^^;

    1. I don't expect people to "just get on [our] side". I expect people to know what the fuck they're arguing against before they start arguing. So we don't end up wasting our time on stupid shit like strawman fallacies and asking the same question OVER AND OVER like we haven't heard it a billion times. Because despite what you might think, charging in with a distorted view of the opposition and then arguing as though that distortion is true, is NOT how you gain an understanding.
